The Wa165 is the last remaining WA class train. It was built in Dunedin in 1897 and spent most of its life working the railway line between Gisborne and Motuhora.
Now in retirement, the WA165 comes out for special steam trips and excursions., so why not relax and enjoy a lazy afternoon on board. The trip runs between Gisborne and Muriwai and all but one of our carriages are fully air conditioned for your cool comfort. The trip encompasses some unique features - crossing the main Gisborne Airport runway (the only train ride in the Southern Hemisphere to do so) and the Waipaoa River bridge. Along the way you'll enjoy the stunning seascape of Poverty Bay with Young Nick's Head in the background as well as our world famous fertile agriculture landscape. Train departs both days at 1pm.
